UNTIL QUIETUDE PREVAILS
Mind is tenacious and capricious
And seems to have a life
Of its own
It is unreliable
As a source of peace
Yet we lean on it
And give our allegiance to it
We have sanctified it
As the arbiter of life
Thus we roam the world
Discontent and restless
What ground, then, can we walk on
That is more true than this
Ah! the unknown
Mind’s great antagonist
The heart
Mind’s great softener
The sky
In which mind moves
To sacrifice mind’s certainty
And fall into not knowing
Is a devotion
That must be courted again and again
Until quietude prevails.
