We long for freedom, But we cling To our precious stories, Our defensive strategies. We wrestle with letting go Of all that defines us— Old habits and well-worn ruts, Carved by years of conditioning. And still, we hold on, Afraid of who we’ll become If we yield them And fall. We long for freedom, Yet we cannot release What we’ve deemed precious— The old coat, Heavy with time, Yet sheltering us from the unknown. “I don’t know how to let go!” We cry, trying to figure it out. We yearn to understand, To remain in control. We want our cake, And freedom too. And so we swing, back and forth: Freedom, prison. Lightness, heaviness. Suffering, peace. The ping-pong game— Awake one moment, Bound the next. Until, at last, we tire. Fed up with the swinging, Exhausted by the endless dance. Ideas of freedom fade, Dreams dissolve, And in their place, Something deeper awakens. A ripening. A softening. An acceptance. Ah! The return to our humanity, Cradled by equanimity. Surrender it all, my friend. Walk as if there were no ground— For truly, There is none. And you are already, Utterly free. ------------------------- I wrote this on Wednesday as I was contemplating the things people go through, and what I went through, on the journey of freedom.
I explore the paradox of our longing for freedom while clinging to the stories and defenses that weigh us down. I speak to the struggle of letting go, the fear of falling into the unknown, and the endless pendulum swing between lightness and heaviness, peace and suffering.
Beneath the struggle lies a deeper truth—freedom isn’t something to be achieved or understood. It arises through surrender, through softening into the fullness of our humanity and releasing the need for control.
This is an invitation to walk as if there were no ground, to discover that freedom is already here, waiting to be realized.
I love fate’s infinite hand It seems to show up everywhere If I try and understand it, It slips through my fingers like sand We are standing on a vast beach, you and I Why count the grains of sand When one forgetful moment And all counting is lost Stay at the majesty of zero It contains everything. ------------------------ And we will find Upon our exit From this dense realm That we were always loved And there was always light And the majesty that surrounds us Is infinite beyond our understanding. ----------------------- Here is a way, The total acceptance Of yourself Exactly as you are No more argument And no more avoidance And a return to that acceptance Whenever you forget... And you will forget. --------------------- To be reborn You must go To the center Of your existence And die into it. --------------------- Empty your heart of grievance Let it be filled with the divine Eventually that love Will pour out everywhere Like an unstoppable spring.
