THE TREASURE WE SEEK
What is the treasure we really seek? Is it a deeper peace, or happiness, or security? Or is it the idea of some kind of relief? Or maybe we want success in some form?
I have asked myself this question many times, in the midst of suffering and in the midst of joy. Yet of course in a state of joy the question may evaporate. Joy is enough. The most pressing questions are borne out of our suffering and struggle, for we seek the meaning of our lives and the meaning (if there is any) for our suffering.
The greatest treasure I have found has been the equanimity that arises from presence. We could also call it the deepest acceptance, surrender and unconditional love. But these words come with an idea, and in presence there is no idea. There is just this, just this, just this. And in just this there is no one to measure, and nothing to measure. This is equanimity, not a doing but a seeing and a being.
And in this presence mind may become still, for it has nowhere to go, and if it tries to go somewhere, we don’t follow it.
The treasure we seek is right here.
Be the light that can never go out Be the truth that can never be silenced Be the love that cannot be suppressed And the beauty that cannot be hidden. ---------------------- The jewels are found In the depths Not on the surface. You must dive deep. --------------------- There is more grace in you Than you realize But seeking will not find it Only a surrender of the seeking self And a great willingness to fall Into the unknown Will reveal it. --------------------- I discovered myself To be the universe in form Never separate from the divine And always at home It was the end of the argument with life. ----------------------- It is our nature to get lost in form It is part of the great dance of life But it is also our nature To remember ourselves as the formless And to abide deeply in that remembering This brings a great healing, grace and peace To the turbulence of the human condition. ------------------------ The body temple Holds the frequency Of your emotional mind Fear and suppressed anger Are destructive and toxic Love and gratitude Are healing and expansive Knowing this itself Brings a harmony. --------------------------- In the time of poetry A few sweet lines Make the soul tremble And remember something true. --------------------------- The universe is dancing inside you Go deeply inside yourself Until you enter the vast cathedral And there become so silent and still You can feel the subtle waves Of that ecstatic movement What mystery this is. -------------------------- There is a kind of poetry In your soul That longs to Be brought into the world. -------------------------- THE INNER VOICE THAT WHISPERS. There is a powerful beauty A secret natural intelligence Called love Inside this world Love on the surface Is but a shadow Of this divine beauty But to know it You must journey Through the darkness of illusion And face the ghosts of the past This is a warrior’s journey Of softening and surrender Resolve and devotion At some point you get quiet enough And undistracted enough And you begin to hear the whisper of grace It has been there all the time But you have been too caught up on the surface to hear it.
