THE DOORWAY TO LOVE

The doorway to love is not locked, not sealed, not even closed. But we see through veiled perception, through false assumption and distorted belief. We peer through the ruts ground into us from childhood, through inherited ancestral burden and ultimately through a karmic lens.

Yet still we know love’s deepest as we glimpse it in a baby’s eyes, as the innocence and unconditional love of a pet moves us, as the natural world bestows its astonishing beauty upon us.

The doorway is not blocked. There is no doorway between this and that. The only thing that stands in the way is mind’s belief.

You are the doorway
Through which love 
Arrives in the world

No more waiting for it
To arrive from somewhere else
As if by magic

It is up to each of us 
To walk in this world
As though love were 
Pouring through us.

Water will take the path
Of least resistance
Yet never loses its essence.

Dear life, whose intelligence I do not understand
Thank you for teaching me 
To fall open in the face of closedness,
My own and other people's.

Grace is realizing that
Whether resistance or surrender
Is happening
One is being carried anyway
By something
More vast than either.

Seek only
The kind of awakening
That makes you more tender
To other’s suffering
Not more cold to their ignorance
Of true nature.

This is the shift,
From me centered
To no center,
From driven by need
To guided by love,
From attached to self
To surrender of self,
From resistance
To acceptance,
From holding on
To letting go.

Find the place within
That allows everything
To be as it is and as it was.

We are vast beyond measure
Invulnerable and eternal
Yet we are also fragile creatures
Who break and hurt and suffer

The path is to know both intimately
Without preference for one or the other.

You are not trapped by your stories 
Your stories are trapped by you
Release them into the winds of time
You have more presence than you know.

There is a great freedom
For us and others
When we realize 
That each being
Has their own karmic destiny
With its own timeline…
It doesn’t mean we don’t care 
It doesn’t mean we can’t love
But it means we surrender our ideas
Of how others should be
To a greater intelligence.
