THE DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN

A selection of poems

Here we are again, another turn of the wheel of time. I am filled with love now, recognizing the impermanence of all things, including thought, emotion, world and self. It has been a year of instruction for me, a call to an ever deepening grace that pervades existence, yet we easily miss and neglect it. The invitation of aging is the invitation to humility and wisdom. What a journey life is.

So here are a few more of my recent outpouring. It doesn’t stop.

May you find peace and openness in whatever circumstances you find yourself in during these times.

Don’t hide any longer
From what hurts
Face it, you are stronger
Than you imagine 
It’s there anyway
Trying to get attention
Face it, not with resignation
But with tender willingness
It will become a precious jewel
And the doorway to love.

You are beautiful
When you are naked and free
Of this heavy coat of conformity
And self limitation.

Don’t be a river
Searching for home
Wondering what the ocean is like
It will only feed imagination
And you will keep saying
‘No, not this, not this,
This doesn’t fit my idea
Of the ocean.’

The ocean water
Is already in you
Become naked 
And realize
This simple truth.

I walked away from my life
And into the fire of love
Following only the flame
No concern for self or future
Caught by an impulse
Led by a fragrance
Into the unknown

I gave myself to that fire
Oh! did it burn
When you say yes to love
All that is not love
Turns up to the party.

If the ocean hung on to the waves
The way we hang on to our emotions
What chaos we would see

But no, the ocean is wise
And allows the endless movement 
Knowing that movement
Is but a small part of its nature.

It may take an entire lifetime
To realize the only truth that matters
Is the totality and grace of love.

Let your heart speak
Of a longing
Beyond mind’s knowing.

Turn away no more
From yourself
Your experience offers you
An open doorway to your deepest
At some point
You must go through that doorway
And meet all that
You have turned away from
When that time comes
You will be ready
You are always ready.

The effervescent and eternally
Emergent universal intelligence 
Has chosen you
As its celebration

You are its eyes and ears
Its way of moving
Of knowing others
And knowing itself
Isn’t that enough?

When you remember
The innate innocence
That was there 
When you arrived in this world
But became hidden
By the weight of conditioning
And the wounds of childhood
When you remember
That innate innocence
Is still here
You will realize
You never left home
You just got lost.
