THE BIRD THAT SINGS THE SONG OF LONGING
The heart of the stifled one
Longs to break open
And release what has been hidden,
Buried for years
Yet what courage is seems to take
What fears must be met
What gamble and risk must be undertaken
What choice is there?
To remain caged
Knowing the bird that sings
Is singing that song of longing
Or to throw open the door
And let it fly free into the unknown
Of course, the first flaps of those delicate wings
Will be precarious
And the little one may even retreat to the cage to rest
But still, leave that door open
By and by, the taste of flying
The sheer beauty of liberation,
Will pull even the most trepidatious one
And flying will become natural and effortless.
