STOP AVOIDING THE ABYSS
Eventually you must fall into the abyss
You may circle it many times
Like a moth circles the flame
But eventually you must give yourself to that emptiness
Willingly withdraw your hands from grabbing and clutching
At whatever it is you always reach for in moments of existential fear
And fall to your death
But don’t imagine you know what that death looks like
Or what the emptiness feels like
For the mind that divides all things
Cannot go to that place
And must be left, marooned and helpless, at the edge
When this falling happens
Maybe once, or again and again,
And it happens from the deepest in you
Something takes place that cannot truly be explained
Cannot be spoken of in language
The gift of wholeness
A kind of holiness
The ability to see with an open eye
A resolution of all division
And a coming home
This is the peace that passeth all understanding
It is there for each of us, not for anyone special,
But you must be willing to fall
And that takes a great willingness
And the courage of a warrior.
