Here we are again, another Friday before the weekend, yet more unknownness surrounding us as we make our way through these treacherous waters.
This week, possibly like you, I have embraced and felt all manner of feelings, from joy (largely generated by our naughty but loving Peyote puppy) to a kind of despair, fear of the future, anger with the insanity of division in the world, and utter heart opening from a simple but deeply distressing story by a friend who showed great compassion and presence. Let me explain.
A friend in Africa posted the loss of her precious and adorable baby kitten to a python snake a few days ago. This is disturbing enough but my friend saw the whole thing take place in front of her. She is a wise and open human being and obviously felt, and still feels, all manner of grief and sorrow. But she also saw the wheel of nature, the law of what is and the way things are. It was the python’s nature to do this. What I learned from her was totality and staying open. She allowed it all, not retracting into a story, not even blaming herself, but neither being fatalistic or overly emotional, or cold and dismissive. There was a balanced honest to her response that other people noticed, commented on and appreciated.
I thought, that is how we change things really isn’t it? By truly being and modeling depth, presence, heart break and honesty, even when things are tough. It was a beautiful teaching, without any teaching happening at all.
In my work with clients across the world this week I saw such individual issues with such common threads it brought the human experience with all its challenges into sharp focus.
We really are a human family. Yes, we are an extremely dysfunctional one, led by erroneous and destructive belief systems and divides that are exploited and manipulated for egregious purpose, but we are still the human family, with its vast differences and incredible similarities.
Maybe one day we will be able to embrace all our differences and celebrate them. But we need a change in consciousness first. That is where the work is for each of us.
If you ask me, that’s what this whole thing is all about. A big doorway of opportunity offered to us, one door marked love, the other marked division. We each get to decide, over and over again, which one we choose.
It will take time.

Anyway, enough of my Friday ramble. I wish love to your heart this weekend, and hope you find time for you, for your wellbeing, for your innermost, for your loved ones, for your joy and yes, even for your sorrow.
Here is our puppy Peyote to wish you well.
