The sense of “I” is at the center of all our experiences. It is the lens through which we perceive the world, the anchor of our thoughts, and the storyteller of our personal history. But what if this “I” is not as real as it seems? What if, through deep meditation, we could see through its illusion?
To meditate until there is no “I” is not to erase yourself, nor is it to deny your existence. It is to look so deeply into your own experience that the one who is looking disappears. The self we take for granted—the thinker, the doer, the one who claims ownership over life—begins to dissolve under the light of pure awareness. What remains is not emptiness in a nihilistic sense, but a vast and boundless presence that was always here.
At first, the mind resists. It clings to identity, to thoughts, to memories. The “I” does not want to let go, because its existence depends on constant affirmation. But meditation is not about suppressing thoughts or forcing stillness. It is about seeing clearly. If you sit long enough, observe deeply enough, you begin to notice that this “I” is just another thought—one that comes and goes like all others. It has no fixed center.
In the depths of meditation, something profound happens. Awareness turns inward and finds no one there—only the open, infinite field of being. There is seeing, but no seer. There is knowing, but no knower. The “I” dissolves, yet everything remains.
This is not an experience to chase, nor a goal to reach. It is simply the truth of things when seen without grasping, without attachment. Meditation is not about becoming someone better, but about seeing that there was never anyone here to begin with. And in that seeing, there is peace.
Sit. Be still. Look deeply. Meditate until there is no “I.” Then, see what remains.
