LOVE FORGED ME INTO THIS

A new collection of short poems

Once again I find myself offering up a few selected poems from this week’s output.
This week Amoda and I had a moment of reflection on what our life was like back in England, the journey involved in getting to America and the unfolding experience of being here, now in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It has been quite something, and changed us both in so many ways.

For myself it has made me grow up and be in the world. I cannot believe I spent so many years, even decades, floundering and really quite lost. It seems the environment of the UK just wasn’t working for either of us. But oh my was it fertile ground for invisible growth. It’s never too late my friend, for the flower to bloom.

Onto the poems.

I was always coming apart
It’s just that in the early days
It was all unconscious

Then the pendulum swung
And grace dumped me
In the wrathful arms
Of a wild shaman

He threw me in the fire
And tore me open

Then I met my beloved
And love forged me
Into this.

The love that awakened inside me
Has no limits, no boundaries
And the more I give myself to it
Not when I feel like it but always
The more it reaches out 
Into the world of form
And tries to touch all it meets
This is not my love
I don’t own it or create it
I serve it.

Walk through
The door of freedom
Empty of knowledge
And free of baggage.

Face the parts of yourself
You want to avoid
There is no other way
To return to wholeness.

When you realize
That you can let life 
Flow into you
Because you are 
Greater than you imagined
And as free as the air
And as strong as the sun
And you don't have to live
In a constant state
Of defendedness
Everything changes
And you mature
Naturally.

In the time of righteous judgment
Be undefended and free
Feed nothing but love.

If your heart hasn’t broken open yet
It is only because the truth of life
Hasn’t caught up with you yet.

Sometimes the journey of transformation
Requires great courage
Digging deep into inner resources
To face what has been denied
There is no one who doesn’t have this courage
And the discovery of this courage itself 
Transforms us.

There is a secret world hidden inside this one.
If you long for it with all your heart and never settle for anything less, at some point the door of the inner kingdom will open, and your life will be filled with a richness and joyous simplicity the mind can barely imagine.
