Awakening is often spoken of as a shift from identification with the small, separate self to recognition of something vast and boundless. It is the realization that who we are is not confined to the fleeting experiences of thought, emotion, and circumstance but is, in essence, the open field of awareness in which all of life arises. Yet, this realization does not mean we transcend our human experience or bypass the world of form. Rather, it invites us to live fully as both the ocean of infinite potential and the wave of each moment’s unfolding.
This paradox is not easily grasped by the mind. The mind wants clarity, resolution—either we are limitless, or we are defined; either we are free, or we are bound. But awakening is not about choosing one over the other. It is about seeing that both are true at once. Just as light exists as both a wave and a particle, we too exist as both the vastness of being and the particularity of our lived experience.
When we awaken to this, something fundamental shifts. No longer do we seek to escape our humanity in pursuit of spiritual transcendence, nor do we lose ourselves entirely in the details of life’s struggles. Instead, we come to rest in a deeper knowing—we are the vastness that contains everything, and we are also the fleeting forms that move within it.
To live as both the ocean and the wave is to embrace life fully. It is to meet each moment as a unique expression of the infinite, without resistance. It is to feel pain without losing touch with the peace that underlies all things. It is to love without fear of loss, to act without clinging to outcomes, to surrender without dissolving into passivity. It is to trust the unfolding of life, knowing that even in the most difficult moments, we remain what we have always been—unbound, whole, and free.
This is the invitation of awakening—not to abandon the world of form, but to see through it, to recognize its fluid and impermanent nature while abiding in the ever-present stillness of being. When we no longer resist the paradox but instead allow it to be lived through us, we discover the deepest truth: the ocean and the wave are not two.

Feed love, beauty and truth Keep tearing off the veil Until the fire of transformation Burns up everything false In your life. -------------------------- How many times must you return to love Before you decide to stay And take up permanent residence All this back and forth across the doorway Works for a time And then there is a deeper voice that says “Now you must decide from the depth of you Where you really live.” ------------------------ You reach out In the darkness In your grief Or loneliness An invisible hand Gently touches you And a cool breeze Wipes the tears away Grace is ever present. ------------------------ Surrender happens When fighting, struggling, resisting Has completely run its course And no longer works Celebrate that time, It’s the start of the end of self A sweet death. --------------------- Maybe all you and I are here for Is to heal all sense of inner division And return to the love we are And share that love with others And everything that happens in our lives Is a doorway to that healing Even when it appears to be the opposite. --------------------- The past dies In every moment Yet here you are Carrying those heavy bags Filled with dust Look inside, they are empty You are carrying imagination. -------------------- Sit quietly Let everything settle Don’t touch the world With your mind Everything becomes still Even for a moment Taste the stillness It heals you. --------------------- You are the rising The heartbeat The softening The fire And the ocean Of possibility.
