HEART’S LONGING AND MIND’S RESISTANCE
The heart that longs for unconditional love
And the suspicious mind that seeks to defend and attack
Bound as it is to division, judgment and self protection
Dance together through our lives
In a push and pull that eventually becomes exhausting
Mind so often defeats the pleas of the heart
Citing the evidence of a world steeped in war and conditionality
Heart says, ‘Can’t we love anyway, I am a flower whose purpose is to open?’
And so it goes, heart becomes quieter and quieter,
And maybe it goes to sleep entirely
But friend, it does not really vanish or die
It just waits, for it has no volition, but must be invited
Yet when death itself arrives
Heart will say, ‘Now I have the unconditionality I longed for.’
