I have grown older, maybe wiser
In my youth I was tormented and angry
I confused love with need
I lost myself in my insecurity
Did I mention the hedonism
That became addiction
Oh the folly of a youth
That lasted until middle age
And slowly did a transformation happen
A great change that blew out the old
A maturation of the tender naive grape
Into a full bodied wine
Worthy of anyone’s time
Wisdom comes with experience
Experience of the light and the dark
We must walk in the valley
In the forest of shadows
We must become lost and confused
Lose hope and find ourselves alone
And then, between grace and will,
When some unseen invitation comes,
However small,
We must seize that opportunity
For transformation
It is always there,
Designed specifically for us
That is where our power is
The simple power of
Seizing opportunity by the forelock
And then, maybe,
The door of wisdom may slowly open
And what riches it reveals
What gratitude and humility
What lightness of touch
What clarity of seeing
There is nothing that tastes as sweet
As the wine of wisdom.
