BEARING DIFFICULT EMOTIONS
It is not a sin to feel things deeply
It is an intrinsic part of the human experience
If difficult emotions show up
Bear them with open arms
All the unloved parts of ourselves
Really want loving and welcoming home
All things are seeking union
Yet we try and detach, explain, deny or overrule
Or we defend, attack and blame
Always some strategy to cope with difficult emotions
And they return, again and again
Friend, only you can do this
Open wide, be so present,
Master your emotions, not by denying them
Not by controlling them,
But by feeling them without them controlling you
Don’t let them hijack you, nor push them away
Breathe them back into the softness
Of your presence
As a warrior must stay softly present
In the face of all danger
The human experience is emotional
There is nothing we can do about that
But become better at mastering ourselves.
