A FEW WORDS ON INTIMACY
We long for intimacy
Maybe it reminds us
Of our time held safe
In the womb
Or it brings us close to God
We yearn for intimacy
With another
But really we want it
With life
With our own experience
For the opposite of intimacy
Is estrangement
Distance or coldness
And no one really wants to live
In that defended place
But intimacy can be terrifying
For it means putting down all weapons
And surrendering all defenses
And being naked, again and again,
It is death to the ego self
And what a glorious resounding death
That changes everything
Intimacy cannot be made
It can only be revealed
It is always there
Underneath the layers
We have built up
Over the years
Of strategizing
How to survive
In this world
Give up this strategizing
And you will discover intimacy.
